Proofreading (minor editing)

Documents submitted for proofreading are carefully reviewed to ensure correct spelling, capitalization, word usage and punctuation, and to eliminate gross grammatical errors and formatting inconsistencies.

Copyediting (average editing)

A copyedit includes proofreading corrections, with the addition of specific grammatical corrections and suggestions to improve stylistic consistency. Run-on sentences and fragments are corrected to improve readability.

Comprehensive Editing (major editing)

Comprehensive editing involves proofreading, copyediting and restructuring awkward sentences and paragraphs to create a readable document that is clear and concise. Content is assessed for accuracy, consistency and completeness. Suggestions are made regarding organization and flow of information to ensure that the document achieves the objectives as provided by the client.

Technical Editing (special requests)

Technical editing includes all aspects of Comprehensive editing, with an additional emphasis placed on ensuring technical accuracy. Special attention is given to the use of correct and appropriate technical terminology and language. A technical edit may involve verifying information or querying the author about information that is false or potentially misleading.
